“If you’re single and ready to mingle, if you want to meet your twin flame, the love of your life or the love of your night, come on down and take a bite,” is the ending lyrics of the first track of  The Aces' latest album Gold Star Baby.

The alternative pop band from Utah, invites the listener to a sexy disco pop magic all through the night at the fictional club called ‘Gold Star Baby.’ The album takes the listener on a fun groovy dance getaway that makes you feel like your shining on the dance floor at a disco club and people are jealous as you’re walking in the room, as described by the second track “Jealous.” The track gives the listener a boost of confidence, making people want to steal your groove in this fictional club. Once all eyes are on you, a certain someone who is just as confident might approach you on the dance floor, this is the moment described in the third track “The Magic.”  The Aces, which is mostly a band of queer women, brings life to two women falling in love at the dance floor and everyone being envious of their chemistry. They share a magic that others recognize and can’t be replicated. Through the playful claps and fun drum beat, the listener will want to move their hips, clap along and replay the song.

If the listener doesn’t replay the song, they will follow a rainbow to the next track “Gold Star Baby.” Just as the title of the album, it reinforces the invitation in the beginning of taking a bite of a forbidden fruit. The lead singer Cristal Ramirez, continues to take the listener on a ride and feeling like pixie dust is being poured over you.

Once you’ve fallen head over feels for someone, you will realize it’s no longer a casual or fun relationship. “You Got Me” will help you find the words to tell this person you love them, as Ramirez sings, it’s serious and ‘I’m all yours.’ This more slow dance beat track, will give you a break from the dance floor to the interlude following next. After the interlude, you will listen to Ramirez sing that although everyone wants the attention of their lover, she confirms “She likes Me.” This track brings a Congo like beat sound, preparing the listener to move their feet again. Ramirez assures she can get possessive and can be aggressive with lyrics ‘You can look don’t touch, you wish you had her… but she likes me.’

To reassure her lover indeed likes her, Ramirez describes how her lover praises her and will “Stroke” her ego over the electrical guitar and lyrics 'And it turns me on to hear you say it, everything about me, so amazing. You said it before I wanna hear it again.’ This track is the perfect feeling of someone giving you a compliment and reassuring your confidence.

The playful claps return in “Twin Flame,” where Ramirez may have split and found a new lover or dance partner, yet not being able to put out the connection of a twin flame. This connection will put all other new possible connections to shame. She still feels the sting of their history and ends the track by signing in Spanish, ‘Por qué mi amor?, Por qué me das dolor? Am I delusional?, Por qué mi amor?’

Assuming by the lyrics of the next track “Fire in The Hole,” this twin flame connection may have no peaceful ending. ‘I really thought that I would love you forever. But then you turned so quickly into my enemy. I’m out and trying to forget that we aren’t together . . . fire in the hole, there she goes, we got to go.’ The track will make the listener shrug their shoulder and accept the ending of a relationship.

But is the relationship truly over? As their twin flame may be reaching out and appearing on her phone and eventually “Spending The Night.” In a more slow melodic pop, Ramirez sings ‘You know I can't say no. One night of ecstasy. We do this every time. I go to draw the line, and you just end up at mine.’ With more vocal harmonies, Ramirez recognizes it just isn’t right. ‘We can't be spending the night. Don't call me your friend when I was never your friend, baby.’

As the night ends at this fictional club, the listener continues to dance and shake their hips one last time. In “I’m Sweet(I’m Mean), Ramirez recognizes the deep cuts brought forth by her lover and feeling betrayed by singing ‘The fog has lifted from my eyes, oh the things I saw in you have died. I’m really trying to be nice.’ Ramirez’s personality is really sweet, but this person brought her mean side that she never wants to bring out again. Ramirez will not be betrayed twice and ends the track with ‘Gave you everything, I wanted us to last . . . Doing lines and coping with the fact you'll never get me back.’

Once you’ve taken a bite you can’t go back, but you can always take another bite at Gold Star Baby.

Keep up with the magic of The Aces:
