Emerging folk-pop artist KELS has released her debut EP in the newest stage of her musical journey.
KELS began songwriting and performing her music as a teenager and went on tour in 2023 as an independent artist with no label. After releasing her breakout single “Gone” in 2025, KELS has been hard at work to release her debut EP, Dirty Blues Princess.
One of the standout tracks, "Call Me," is a folk-pop and Americana-inspired single. The song opens with a chugging guitar rhythm, finger-picked melodies, and hazy steel guitar, creating a warm, atmospheric backdrop. As KELS' vocals enter, moody and soulful with a distinct vibrato, the track settles into its first verse with understated confidence and emotional depth.
“Another drop of rain goes by / And I see you go and cry again / For no reason at all”
As percussion is subtly introduced, and the upright bass begins to ground the track, the vocals swell and build to the chorus. The listener is then left suspended, as the instrumentals are stripped back and expose the emotional vocals. An electric guitar reemerges alongside the introduction of fiddle, adding another layer of texture to the arrangement. Soft vocal harmonies soon join the mix, further amplifying the track's emotional resonance.
“If you need me, call me / If you leave me lonely / I won’t cry for you no more”
The bright tone of a mandolin is integrated into the track as it mirrors the vocal melody. As KELS shows off beautiful vocal riffs, the track begins to scale back.
“Call Me” encapsulates an emotional experience and gently fades as the opening lyrics return with a subtle lyric change.
