LA-based pop artist KENTON has released the official music video for his dance-pop track, “Vaporize Me.”
Directed by Matthew Law and choreographed by Daisha Graf, the music video puts a slick, moody spin on KENTON’s straightforward club bop. Filmed in both half-and full-shadow, KENTON spends much of the video dancing with the shadowed figure of another man, symbolizing his need to keep the object of his desire hidden even while the dance between them is plain for all to see.
Pictured against a vibrant, dark blue backdrop, KENTON dances in a red suit and black tank top with the other man, while at other times he sits at a mahjong table, while the other man dances in the background on his own.
The dichotomy between the public appearance of KENTON engaging with his culture and the joyful dance between him and the other man speaks true to the issues KENTON sings about on his EP, Sweetmouth, about the struggle between recognising the current form of himself within the expectations of his roots. Both are him, but there is a sense of separation between them even as they bleed into each other.
Released alongside the announcement for the upcoming acoustic version of his debut EP, titled Sweetmouth (Sugar Free), KENTON continues to dance the line between upbeat pop numbers and more raw interpretations of his life– but since he does it so well, hopefully even the sugar-free version of his debut hits the spot.
