Dutch-Surinamese singer-songwriter néomí has released her first single of 2026, “Didn’t I.”
The start of a new chapter, “Didn’t I,” is a soul-stirring track built on minimal instrumentation and néomí’s trademark deep, soulful vocals. It’s the perfect blend of ethereal folk-pop and acoustic lushness.
“‘Didn’t I’ is a song about an inevitable kind of love, one that you wish in the end didn’t happen at all,” says néomí. “It’s about being in a difficult relationship where you are being held responsible for your partner’s repeated attempts to sabotage things. You’re left wondering, ‘did I do enough?’ or ‘was I enough?’ – when, in fact, those are the questions they should be asking themselves.”
The track creates an emotional resonance as néomí repeats the lyric “didn’t I?/didn’t I, didn’t I, didn’t I?” in a way that captures someone questioning their own reality, wondering how things can feel so certain when they know them to be different.
