Ata Kak returns with new single "Batakari" after thirty-one years

Fans of Ata Kak have fallen in love with a single album—one glorious album, the only solo work we’ve had for the past thirty-one years. We were perfectly content with that. Obaa Sima overflows with enough creative passion that we were fully prepared to surrender to its singularity.

That was, until this (musically) glorious year, 2025.

Last month, we were blessed with "Yasi Town," an unexpectedly melodic, structured side of his repertoire.

Now we have another song. This marks the second single and title track released in preparation for a new album in November.

"Batakari" is named after the traditional West African garment. Like its namesake, the track is woven together with the sounds of Ghanaian hip-hop, funk, and the timeless ease that is Ata Kak's signature.

The song runs five minutes, moving through sections of Twi rap, call-and-response, and background vocals that add harmonic depth to a beautiful melting pot of sounds—crafted in a way that feels entirely unique and unlikely to be replicated.

Nothing is left behind in Ata Kak's universe—it's a bundle of joyous energy that will sweep you up and drag you along for the ride of your life.
