Canadian duo Milk & Bone have released their new single “Bloodshot”.
A teaser for their upcoming EP A Little Lucky (coming December 5), the new single – as well as the whole EP – has been produced by beloved electro-funk duo Chromeo. But the upcoming EP, like “Bloodshot”, is a true collaboration between the two duos.
Milk & Bone’s Laurence Lafond-Beaulne and Camille Poliquin have promised that the upcoming EP will be full of all the richness of 2010s electro-pop, fused with Milk & Bone’s signature judicious use of basslines and stuffed full of synth.
Having met at the Juno awards in 2019, the collaboration between Milk & Bone and Chromeo was settled after 24 hours, when Milk & Bone sent Chromeo a DM. From there – and over the course of a few years, set back by a worldwide pandemic – A Little Lucky came to fruition. Milk & Bone took on the composing and songwriting, while Chromeo picked up the production side of things.
If “Bloodshot” is a true representation of the rest of the EP to come, it might just be a match made in heaven.
Based on the idea of a deep yet fleeting summer love, “Bloodshot” is a laid-back summer tune that belies its own lyrics. Warm, sugary vocals sing people call me crazy/I tend to agree/but only you can read me, which is a a lot of big feelings for something that lacks the promise of lasting.
Milk & Bone’s new single is proof that you can always dance to something with a good bassline, even if the end will leave you yearning for more.
