London artist Cherie Jones-Mattis, known artistically as JONES, has released her five-track EP In The Moment, a project that beautifully blends soft-focus soul, R&B, and glimmers of disco into something intimate and emotionally rich.

Carrying themes of hopefulness through heartbreak, joy, nostalgia, and renewal, JONES’s voice becomes a steady light in the darkness—effortless, smooth, and deeply soulful. She delivers each lyric with a softness that still manages to strike right at the core.

The EP opens with “Sunshine,” an optimistic track that encourages listeners to “let in the sunshine”—a refrain that feels almost blissfully naive, but deeply comforting, no matter what you’re going through. Lines like “you will discover you’re swimming in color again” hold tight to the idea that even in life’s murkier moments, brightness eventually returns. With warm keys, layered vocals, and a steady rhythm, it sets the tone for the emotional ride to come.

“In The Moment” picks things up with a glittering disco flair. Funky from the jump, its groove is clean and infectious, balanced by vocals that feel light and assured.

“Brush it off till you move without a care,” she sings—a reminder to dance through the chaos. By track two, your mood’s already lifted.

Then comes “Moonlight”—a standout. The rhythm pulses with the feeling of pushing through something painful, even when it hurts.

With short, punchy lyrics and breathy, ethereal delivery, JONES paints the picture of a breakup that aches but doesn’t paralyze. Instead, there’s motion. There’s grace. She dances through the heartbreak, glowing in the moonlight.

“Don’t Wanna Say Goodnight” follows with a more smoldering, seductive vibe. JONES leans into the rush of new love, singing, “you got me feeling the colors that were waiting so long to be uncovered.” The color motif reappears—woven throughout the EP like a quiet promise of transformation. It’s a track full of butterflies and wide-eyed wonder, and she matches that feeling vocally with ease and intention.

Ending on “Heavenly Water” was a perfect choice—it’s romantic, peaceful, and radiates the kind of feel-good energy that captures the essence of the entire EP. Vocally, it leans more ethereal than any other track, fully embracing the joy and serenity that love can bring.

Even when JONES explores heavier themes, she always finds a way to twist them toward light—through movement, hope, faith, and an unshakable belief that things will get better.

On In The Moment, JONES doesn’t just sing about emotion—she embodies it. And in doing so, she offers listeners space to feel, heal, and maybe even dance a little through the pain.
