Acclaimed trap producer Southside has released "King of Trap Vol. 1," the first in a series of three sample packs that distill the aggressive energy and raw grooves that have made him synonymous with the genre. The release marks Southside's return to sample pack creation, following his massively successful 2019 "I Invented Trap" pack.
The new collection makes available the sonic ingredients that comprise Southside's iconic sound—blistering sub-shaking 808s, moody cinematic melodies, and hard-hitting drums—for producers to incorporate into their own music. For an artist whose extensive resume includes hits for Drake, Future, Meek Mill, Gucci Mane, Jay-Z, Rick Ross, and Travis Scott, this represents a significant opening of his creative vault.
"I feel like producers should have a fair chance," Southside explains about releasing his coveted sounds. "Nobody's gonna do the same thing with the same beats. So I can give you everything I use, and it's still not gonna be the same. But you might create something that's 10 times better than me, I love that."
The co-founder of production collective 808 Mafia (alongside Lex Luger and TM88) has enjoyed explosive popularity in recent years, collaborating with artists such as 21 Savage, Marshmello, and Metro Boomin while also kickstarting his DJ career with a notable Coachella 2025 performance.
Southside's 2019 "I Invented Trap" sample pack ranks among the top 10 highest-performing releases of all time on Splice Sounds, demonstrating the massive demand for his signature production style among emerging producers.
