Norwich quartet Takeda encapsulates the feeling of life slipping away from you on “Sugar Mountain,” a smooth blend of alt-rock stylings and folk undertones led by poetic lyrics and soaring vocals.
Rooted in fuzzy acoustic guitar lines, punchy drums and a grounding bassline, the track is groovy and emotive all at once as it swells into a powerful, explosive climax as it captures the palpable sense of energy of their live shows.
Described by the band as a track that’s meant to feel “unstable, borderline schizophrenic,” the track moves from gentle finger picked guitar to a full fat fuzzed out guitar wall of noise in an expansive show of range. The band explain, “ ‘Sugar Mountain’ was recorded live, and is a raw studio take captured playing live together in the room. We wanted to get across the intensity of our live shows. The way the whole band explodes on demand and by surprise. That’s a theme with this whole album, lyrically and musically”
An enticing peek of their upcoming debut album In Venus’ Train which channels mystical figures from folk-lore and biblical metaphors, Takeda fuses the he melodic and emotional sensibility of folk with the fuzzed out tones of grunge to craft a dynamic sonic world that consistently sets them apart in the world of folk-rock.
