Vermantics return with an authentic sound of Melbourne's rock dynasty on "The Pictures You Paint"

With The Pictures You Paint, Melbourne rock outfit Vermantics deliver a vibrant and emotionally charged four-track EP that captures the complexities of human connection with striking clarity. The band’s trademark blend of nostalgic grit and modern finesse is on full display here, building on their growing momentum after a successful UK tour and rising acclaim for recent singles “Come Alive” and “Open Up Your Dreams.”

Opening with the stormy intensity of “Come Alive,” the EP immediately grabs attention. It’s a bold introduction—driven, restless, and alive with urgency. “How Does It Feel” slows things down but cuts even deeper, asking big questions about empathy and self-understanding without ever veering into sentimentality. “Fake It” takes a more cynical turn, exploring the façades people wear and the distance between appearance and reality. Closing track “Open Up Your Dreams” brings a sense of resolution—a melodic, almost cinematic moment of catharsis that perfectly rounds out the record.

The production is crisp and dynamic, thanks to co-producer Phil Threlfall and mastering by Andrei Eremin, but what really stands out is how alive the band sounds. There’s no over-polishing here—just four musicians locked in, performing with raw precision and palpable chemistry. Stefan Fedele’s vocals cut through with conviction, while lead guitarist Jack Stevenson adds shimmering layers and sharp hooks.
