Indie Pop Star Sid Dorey is back with a stunning new EP, "Middle Seat," which explores the emotional roller coaster of growing up, getting lost, and finding your people. At a shade over 13 minutes, this sophomore effort shows that short doesn’t mean short-changed. In the wake of the success of Drama in Doses, "Middle Seat" travels to the kind of raw, emotionally candid territory that Sid has always been keen to explore.
Album opener “Middle Seat”, the song from which the album derives its title, smacks the listener around emotionally, holding nostalgia and heartbreak in one hand and a lacy melody and heavy hook in the other. It’s a defining anthem for anyone stuck in the in-between of life, in a collection of delightfully unpredictable songs. Then there is “Unlovable,” a gut-wrenching confessional that captures the personal and the universally resonant. Stripped-back production that lets Sid’s voice breathe, the track asks hard questions and resists easy answers.
Dorey explains, “The middle seat of the car can be the suckiest spot or the most delightful depending on the company you keep.” Against that backdrop is the emotional thread of the EP, bravery to remain, to hope, and to heal even when it’s painful. Every "Middle Seat" track is imbued with purpose, coupling an intimate storyline with crisp, emotive production that upholds every word. It’s indie pop with a pulse and a point.
