WELLY's back with their latest single, "The Roundabout Racehorse," a riotous indie-rock anthem that perfectly captures the surreal nostalgia of returning home and realizing that, while everything looks the same, nothing truly is. The track is a punchy, tongue-in-cheek reflection on the awkwardness of past selves, old flames, and the inescapable familiarity of small-town life.
Sonically, the track is infectiously energetic, packed with driving guitars, tight rhythms, and wry, observational lyrics that turn the mundane into the absurd. The band leans into their post-punk and Britpop influences, conjuring the swagger of Blur with the sharp wit of Arctic Monkeys.
Frontman Welly’s charismatic vocals navigate the highs and lows of homecoming, oscillating between confidence and existential dread, more of which is explored in fine detail on the band's debut album "Big in the Suburbs" out 21 March.
Adding to the chaos, WELLY delivers another hilariously absurd music video (see below), this time featuring the band in jockey silks and a pantomime horse, channeling The Specials’ "Ghost Town" with a fast-food twist. It’s a visual punchline that complements the song’s themes of self-perception, nostalgia, and the strange comfort of revisiting old haunts.
With "The Roundabout Racehorse", WELLY proves once again that they’re true masters of turning the mundane into magic – equal parts chaotic 80's pop reverence, heartfelt warmth, and undeniably fun in a time of desperate need.
