Minnesota-born and now a global sensation, Ber is an artist who is continually shifting genre, showing a rare versatility. Equally comfortable in the folk and Americana arenas, she has recently undertaken a subtle shift towards alt-pop. With "Oh, To Be Cool," that shift has gone further: here, Ber tries out a new, fresh sound – and it works.
Starting with a delicious, lo-fi piano sample and then hopping into a boppy, light-on-the-surface groove, the song then expands and deepens as Ber explores and exposes her feelings.
The song is a refreshingly honest take on a push-pull struggle with self-doubt and vulnerability, in the face of constant pressure to display confidence and motivation.
“For as long as I can remember, my relationship with needing to be perceived as 'cool' has reflected that of a dog chasing its own tail. I’m constantly in awe of the people around me. We wrote this song so I could laugh it off, remind myself to stop taking everything so seriously all the time…" Ber says. By releasing this understated pop banger, Ber will be helping many of us to stay real, too.
To coincide with the release of "Oh, To Be Cool," Ber will be joining Good Neighbours for an 8-date North American tour throughout September.
