Irish singer/songwriter Sorcha Richardson has just unveiled her latest single and accompanying visuals for her latest track, "Archie." The folk rock song is the first unveiling off of her highly anticipated upcoming sophomore album set for release later this year.
In "Archie," Richardson looks back at the coming of age years and that special friendship with whom one hopes and dreams with. Sometimes,though, those friendships fade with life and she brilliantly examines the ebbs and flows of interpersonal relationships in her new single. With lyrics including, "if you get a way out / call me when you land / I've been making posters / tryna start a band," "Archie" further explores a desire for escape and impactful new beginnings. In the cinematic accompanying visuals, two young friends are seen running free, being mischievous and having the best time together. At the end though, one friend is no longer around and the disappointment is palpable of a friendship lost. Additional cuts of Richardson singing in dreamlike hazy shots further symbolizes her past recollections and memories. Sonically, "Archie" features moody guitar riffs, evocative slide guitar and Richardson's honey-dipped vocals culminating into an attention-grabbing chorus. The single is a tender and nostalgic fusion of indie folk, rock and pop making for an enthralling musical journey.
Sorcha Richardson is one of the most exciting songwriters to come out of Dublin in years. Her keen ability to craft heartfelt and relatable narratives with an achingly intimate lens is truly unique. She began sharing music in 2012 and since then has released a debut album and a series of singles and EPs to much critical acclaim.
