Hailing from Belfast, Travi The Native’s impressive single "ishouldbesleeping," is his first release of 2022, and is arguably his finest work yet. With a production style reminiscent of Justin Vernon and The National’s ‘Sleep Well Beast’, the track comes packaged with a yet to be released video that has a superbly high production value.
Delivering raw, uncut vocals over cinematic, echoing beats, the melodic track has a stirring quality without shying away from candid lyrics that don't embellish the soreness of the subject matter. Travi can't sleep because he's thinking about that person.
Travi's fusion of genre's has an undeniable commercial appeal, adding Hip-Hop beats to misty soundscapes that wouldn't be out of place on an Indie-Folk track with the delivery of an Alternative/Pop anthem, which at its core, "ishouldbesleeping," wholly embodies.
Dicsussing the single Travi The Native explains:""ishouldbesleeping" is a love song. An introspective recount of life in a long distance relationship. You live your life with this person but they’re not physically there, and that becomes a hard thing to navigate. You each have a certain freedom, but not the freedom you want. You’re just in a constant state of longing for what you can’t have.”
He elaborated that “I’d often daydream about my partner being there during all the menial tasks of the day. Ultimately, it put me in this constant state of limbo for a long time and that's where this song came from.”
