Reks is on the verge of dropping his 12th project on the 11th of September as he celebrates his 20-year journey as a time tested high-caliber emcee. The Lawrence, MA native has always had a way with concepts and on his lead single "The Complex" he takes us deep into the inner-workings of the capitalistic Big Pharma companies over a stark ominous backdrop.
"The Complex" sees Reks teaming up with his longtime collaborator DJ/producer Statik Selektah and legendary lyricist Pharoahe Monch who adds his unique perspective on the subject matter. Monch opens up the floor with a riveting tale of a war vet suffering from PTSD and vividly describes his difficultly adjusting to civilian life. It's a tale we have often heard but Monch approaches it with his characteristic malleable flow. This particular line "…little Baby body lying facedown in the ravine, I thought I'd be an action figure/ Kung fu grip, that ain't even the half my nigga…" really sums up the soldier's mental state as well. Reks closes it out with his own take on the growth and influence of Big Pharma and the damage they have done to us all with lines like "…desensitize mentality/ tablet to tongue to have relief/ the doctor's bedside manner make men to have belief/ soil the soil, tap water we need to boil, no seeds it's GMO…"
“The Complex” is taken from Reks’ forthcoming LP, T.H.I.N.G.S (The Hunger Inside Is Never Satisfied), which is due out Sept 11. The project features Lil Fame, Nottz, Evidence, and Marco Polo, among others,
