Greedy Giddy, better known as 03 Greedo, teamed up with super-producer Kenny Beats for his latest film-inspired project, Netflix & Deal, released November 22, 2019. The LA rapper’s newest tape is a bass-heavy culmination of cocaine music and a whole lot of gang shit. Enlisting features from Freddie Gibbs, KEY!, Buddy, Vince Staples, Maxo Kream, and Shoreline Mafia’s, Ohgeesy, Netflix & Deal will be in heavy rotation for quite some time.
Kenny Beats/ production on this album is simple but thematic, incorporating melodic chord progressions, horns, and strong 808s. “Paid in Full”, gives credit to the OG film starring Mehki Phifer and Cam'ron, while Greedo raps over what sounds like the opening to a “Narcos” episode. The chemistry between Greedo and Kenny Beats is natural, allowing Greedo to shine on every record. Freddie Gibbs lays down gritty anecdotes on the cocaine-induced “Disco Shit”, while Vince Staples and Greedo bond over gang affiliation on “Blue People”. Kenny Beats has been known for his killer collabs with artists like Rico Nasty and he doesn’t miss the mark on Netflix & Deal. Greedo’s versatility is shown on tracks like “Soul Food” featuring fellow West Coast artist, Buddy. Greedo swaps out his hard exterior for a softer approach, dedicated to the ladies. Buddy and Greedo take turns crooning over soul food – you know that one woman who just feels good to the soul.
The album wouldn’t be complete without some reflection. Greedo reflects and reminisces on “Life”, laying down some of his most honest bars on the track (might grow old in prison/but you can’t call me a snitch). Greedo’s loyalty to the game came amid his 2018 arrest in which he was sentenced to 20 years for drug trafficking. “Life” represents his dedication to the code. Overall, “Netflix & Deal” is a great collaboration from 03 Greedo and Kenny Beats. Throw this in your rotation.
