Kaytranada and BADBADNOTGOOD warm up with "Lavender"

There's been excitement around the collaborations coming from Kaytranada and BADBADNOTGOOD, and this isn't the first we've seen from them. 99.9%, Kaytra's debut album, included the modern jazz band on "Weight Off" and immediately fans of one became fans of another. There's been hints of another track for a while, but the romance has been totally solidified with "Lavender" off of BADBADNOTGOOD's IV.

Coincidence that their album titles are numbers? Probably. But I'm happy about it. However, this song is in no way straightforward. We here different styles from both Kaytra and BBNG, colluding into a simple, soft track with easy drum breaks, a synth, and an eclectic saxophone. The track builds throughout all of its loops and bounds, culminating into what seems to be a garage band-esque arrangement with multiple different paths. I love this about these guys, breaking boundaries from normal compositions of modern electronic and creating smoother, more evolving music.

In an interview with FADER, BBNG said,

"Kay started the idea as a beat with our drum breaks and some synth melodies. Then we recut the drums and synth to formulate a song with more sections. Kay came back to Toronto and gave us that hot lead melody as well as percussion and we all finalized the arrangement. It's an incredible honour to call Kay a close friend of ours; he is a talent like no other."

The love is on, and we await IV with great anticipation. Listen below.
