The tracks that Travis Stewart makes as Machinedrum are usually served up at a breakneck speed; the 150+ b.p.m. tempos he uses are just as dizzying as his constant output of new material. He can slow down when he wants to, though: lately he's been working with Jimmy Edgar as JETS, and their songs tend to amble more than sprint.
This mindset has bled over into Stewart's latest production for vocalist Rosie Lowe, on the subdued R&B slow-burner "Worry Bout Us." Stewart does pick up the tempo at times, seemingly too restless to just let a simple beat ride for multiple minutes. Instead he shifts the percussive tempo constantly, while letting Lowe's vocals drift overtop like smoke. According to Stewart, this rendition of "Worry Bout Us" is a dancefloor-friendly edit, to be followed by the official version in the coming weeks. Expect Lowe's next album to drop soon too, on Wolf Tone / Polydor.
