The eclectic nature of Brooklyn based duo The Golden Pony has always fascinated me, from day one production to this most recent remix of Outkast's legendary hit "Ms. Jackson." Most of their press shots and album artwork are done in a New York alley wearing what seems to be thrift store Halloween outfits. This is all confirmed and validated by their Soundcloud tagline, "We have afros and make disco."
Taking on Outkast is never an easy accomplishment, but this edit is not only a smooth re-creation of the tune but rather an introduction into a new form of Golden Pony execution. We've seen party anthem remixes such as "Forgot About Dre" and even a Simon and Garfunkel joint, but the Brooklyn boys put an emphasis on disco with this one. A few mellow synths and deep bass hits later, we have maximum disco rejuvenation of "Ms. Jackson."
In multiple interviews, the boys have expressed their mission to bring psychedelia to electronic music. I'm sure this movement will be greeted with open arms, seeing that the industry is beginning to lean towards more experimental acts.
