RETRO reveals "Resist", his first single from 'The Six' [Premiere]

Detroit born, Atlanta based rapper RETRO just dropped the first single from his forthcoming mixtape. RETRO may seem like an odd name choice for a 22 year old rapper looking ahead at the future of his career, but he cites some old school favourites as his main influences. From hometown heroes J Dilla and OutKast, to legends such as Michael Jackson and Erykah Badu, RETRO channels his musical icons as his own creativity comes through in “Resist”. The edgy track combines some off the wall production with an unorthodox flow in carving out a total experience for new listeners seeking alternative hip hop freshness. “Resist” also boasts a cinematic atmosphere with ritualistic chants and an impressive set of wild samples which build an occasion that RETRO rises to. Such a busy beat could leave a lot of rappers lost, but brash bars like “Do it big like the motherf****** lips on Hova” demonstrate his ability to shine during the heaviest of arrangements.

“Rocket astronomist, your chick anonymous, I cannot swallow this pride. I’m growin’ some wings, I’m talkin’ weird things, I’m having some talks with God”

RETRO’s new tape The Six follows last year’s The Average College Kid and a recent tour with Rich Homie Quan and Riff Raff. You can check out “Resist” below.
