Pop music gets a bad reputation, and I'm sure most people underestimate the amount of talent that resides in the industry. It seems as if one bad era of teenage pop stars drowned out the amazing stuff that dwells in the back. Cassie Steele is a prime example as this talent in her new release of "Mad" out today.
A Toronto native, she attended London School of Dance in Scarborough, Ontario where she trained in ballet and jazz dance. Her career has skyrocketed not only in acting, but also now in the music industry. Releasing her debut album “How Much for Happy” in 2005 and her sophomore album “Destructo Doll” in July 2009, Cassie has established herself as an artist to be reckoned with. Steele lies on the darker, more emotional side of pop music. Her gritty production and distorted sound clears a path for her beautiful voice to relay some extremely emotional lyrics. Steele's new single “Mad” was produced by Neff-U (Eminem, 50 Cent, New Edition, Ne-Yo) and will be accompanied by visuals that we are told will release soon, directed by Shenae Grimes (DeGrassi, 90210).
Taste the waters of Cassie Steele and forget the old ways of pop. The word retains such a teeny-bopper connotation, and I feel it's artists like Cassie who are set out to change it. Listen to "Mad" on Soundcloud and make sure to grab it on iTunes here.
