Auckland, NZ brother/sister duo BROODS came into our hearts and speakers last fall with their hit "Bridges," and then reaffirmed their position of favor this past December with follow-up track "Never Gonna Change." Today they prove that they're looking to stay, dropping a beautiful bundled EP of six tracks that are making us stop in our tracks — i.e., close out other tabs, crank up the volume and ignore our in-stream of emails.
We've listened to a lot of male/female duos – GEMS, MS MR, AlunaGeorge – but we can't really comfortably compare this pair to any one act. Because they're not jumping into a single genre pool, rather choosing to blaze their own trail/build their own bridges, into uncharted territory. It's folktronica with a lot of soul, some alternative edge, and the perfect smattering of synth/bass. Produced by Joel Little, of recent Grammy winner Lorde acclaim, this EP's unique smorgasbord of sounds sets it up for mainstream success. And like a musical cookie with all our favorite ingredients, made by one of our favorite chefs to boot, how could we not chow down?
