The Weekend got us high for the first time with his dark and sensual track “High for This” in 2012, then our favorite British pop star Ellie Goulding brought us higher with her silky electronic cover.   Now, Norwegian DJ & Producer Kygo is taking us the highest with his remix of Ellie Goulding’s cover, proving that 3rd time’s the charm.  That is the beauty of music, an artistic community that celebrates reinventing and recreating songs far beyond the original piece.

The Weekend’s original version of  “High for This” is rich with dark emotion, expressing frustration through the deep synth riffs and heavy beat.  Ellie Goulding’s cover brought the song to a hopeful place with her fairy like voice and electronic trills throughout.  Kygo has made the song his own; beginning the track with his signature soft beat as to introduce himself to his audience.  The 22-year-old producer makes the song dance with an uplifting bounce to the beat, reminding me of a chilled out young Dillon Francis.

Kygo has a unique ability to create a completely original song through a remix, changing the mood and emotions derived.  Another incredible example of his ability to uniquely re-work a song is his remix of Passenger’s “Let Her Go”.  Expect to see great things from this young producer.
