It seems that any great band stems from an unusual conception, and the amount of diversity within the group can determine how intricate their talents can be. Perfect example, electronic, hip hop, jazz fusion band The Hics. Four of the band’s six members met at the celebrated, special music course at Pimlico School; a classical/jazz curriculum that cites Dave Okumu and Tom Herbert (The Invisible) as tutors, and the likes of Roots Manuva and dubstep duo Nero as alumni. Feeling that a male/female duet was proper, founders Sam Evans and Jacob Welsh recruited their female counterpart Roxana Dayette within the dorms.
The Hics debut Tangle EP is written and produced by the six-strong instrumentalists themselves, and is a direct testament to their school days. Today we premiere the Regal Safari remix of The Hics' "Cold Air", a downtempo edit that focuses mainly on complex percussion centered around crystal clear vocals. Check out the band on Soundcloud, and grab their Tangle EP now.
