City Calm Down is an emerging Australian indie band that has been turning a lot of heads recently. Their catchy choruses and delicious synths make it difficult not to like them. Their EP Movements was only released on November 2 so it's not too late to bring yourself up to speed with the lads. Generally their music is upbeat and more often than not, seem to channel a little known band called The Smiths. Here fellow Aussie Ta-ku has tasked himself with remixing City Calm Down's, "Sense Of Self", the second single from Movements. Already a promising electronic music producer, Ta-ku's name has surfaced enough for us to know he's planning to stay in the scene for awhile.

The untouched version of "Sense Of Self" offers plenty from the get-go. It's one of those electronic indie anthems you crank up while rolling down your car window so everyone within a five mile radius can hear. Ta-ku's take, however, transforms the feel-good track into a synth jungle that just barely grazes the trap genre but sways well into chillstep territory too. Maintaining the original tempo and main vocals, he embellishes everything else, orchestrating spindly synths and those classic trap instrumentals to successfully conjure a new iteration of the track. We had an inkling a lot of powerful music was coming from Australia, and artists like City Calm Down and Ta-ku only confirm the notion.

The name is Phil. I've been with EARMILK for handful of years now. I love all sorts of music, and I tend to change up what type of music I'm into throughout the year. However, one thing is certain: I love anything chill and mellowed out. A lot of the time, you'll see me covering smooth, chilled out grooves through our infamous Daily 2% series. 80 BPM is love, 80 BPM is life.
