His second EP, I Don't Know How To Write A Song turns self-doubt into an attractive six-track collection that feels authentic, heartfelt and genuinely relatable. At just over 19 minutes, the project offers an intimate listening experience that showcases thoughtful songwriting, memorable melodies, and emotionally driven performances.
Four of the standout tracks on the EP – “Silver Lining,” “Get To You,” “Pink Clouds,” and the title track – were recorded partly in Nashville, Tennessee, and produced by Sam Westhoff (also known as HAFFWAY). The collaboration offers an elegant, yet organic touch, allowing Micah’s artistry to shine through but still remaining authentic.
“I Don’t Know How To Write A Song” finds a comfortable middle ground between vulnerability and confidence from the opening moments. The EP doesn’t rely on flash production, but rather real emotion, creating a set of songs that allow us to come along with Micah on his own creative path. Each arrangement has a sense of purpose, allowing each melody to breathe and keeping the project moving along engagingly.
“Silver Lining” is one of the most memorable moments in the EP collection. Its uplifting atmosphere and emotional depth make it resonate instantly, reminding listeners that hope often emerges amidst life’s uncertainties. Equally compelling, “Get To You” showcases Micah’s knack for combining heartfelt storytelling with an infectious musical flow, making it one of the strongest highlights of the release.
The thing I like about this EP is its consistency. Micah Felts shows an evolving artistic identity rooted in honesty, not formula, across all six tracks. But the production supports it, and the feeling behind each song feels organic. The result is a cohesive body of work that rewards casual listeners and those who appreciate meticulous independent music.
