Los Angeles based artist Yalee continues to define his described “Hood Soul” sound on “Paper Cups Paper Plates Part 2,” a heartfelt collaboration with fellow Ohio native Kvng Shad that blends piano-driven R&B, melodic rap, and deeply personal storytelling.
Anchored by warm keys and an instantly memorable hook, “Paper Cups Paper Plates Part 2" transforms everyday symbols of poverty into powerful emotional touchstones. References to paper plates, instant noodles, and empty cupboards symbolize sacrifice, family, and ambition. Bars like “I’m running rent-free in they head /now I’m doing numbers,” and the OKC/Thunder and Stevie Wonder lines move the narrative from hardship into self-belief and forward motion, framing success as something already materializing. Rather than leaning into heavy-handed messaging, Yalee lets the imagery speak for itself.Overall, the track reads as a reflective narrative about rising out of pressure, but from a vulnerable, lived-in experience instead of a broad "came from nothing" cliche.
Outside of music, Yalee channels the same passion and intention into his growing business ventures. From touring with Mac Miller to creating the Dear Cloudz lifestyle brand and launching SelfieO Skin, his work consistently reflects a focus on mental health, self-care, and personal growth.
