London-based Brazilian artist MOMO. has released his new album, Tum Tum Tum, a vibrant eight-track collection that brings together elements of Brazilian music, jazz, folk, and global rhythms.
Recorded live in South London alongside a close-knit group of collaborators, the album captures the energy of musicians responding to one another in real time, resulting in a record that feels loose, natural, and full of character.
One of the album's greatest strengths is its sense of musical chemistry. Built around the rhythm section that toured MOMO.'s previous album Gira, Tum Tum Tum allows each musician space to shape the direction of a song as it unfolds. That approach gives the record a natural flow, with arrangements that feel responsive rather than rigid.
The opening track "Egum Eô" immediately establishes the album's rhythmic focus, while the colourful "Vermelho e Rosa" brings a lighter touch, balancing groove and melody with ease.
The collaborative spirit of the record is equally compelling. "Morena" benefits from the contributions of Brazilian legend Marcos Valle, whose piano playing helps define the track's laid-back character, while the bilingual "Canto de Aldeia," co-written with Nina Miranda, adds another dimension to the album's rich musical palette.
Across all eight tracks, MOMO. and his collaborators favor subtlety over excess, allowing the performances to speak for themselves.
Rich in rhythm and atmosphere, Tum Tum Tum is a record that rewards close listening. Whether driven by its intricate musicianship, thoughtful arrangements, or the interplay between its contributors, the album showcases an artist continuing to refine his craft while remaining fully committed to the joy of making music together.
