Danish indie rock outfit Virak leads the deeply moving re-release of their debut album Threads with "Where It All Begins," which weaves off-kilter guitars with haunting yet ethereal vocal notes together to deliver a gut-wrenching ode to the end of something that could have been.
With lilting opening notes that give way to layers of echoing beats, the profound offering makes for a stand-out moment in the albu, which arrives anew with deeper emotional circumstance. Originally released in 2008 on CD, the album which returns amidst frontman, guitarist, and songwriter Martin Ejlertsen's continuing battle with ALS.
Having been diagnosed with the progressive neurological disease in 2022, Ejlertsen finds catharsis through this project. Speaking of the project and everything that it means, he says, “I have been very private about my illness… it has been like a long waking nightmare. But now I probably only have a few months left to live, so it’s about making the best of the last. Having this album project has given me some light in an otherwise completely dark and very depressing time.”
