Daði Freyr’s new album, Too Much Not Enough, sees Freyr leaning into a more personal side of his songwriting, exploring the constant feeling of wanting more while trying to appreciate the life already in front of you.
Written between collaborative sessions abroad and his move back home to Iceland, the record reflects the juggle between family life, touring, ambition, routine, and learning how to stay present through all of it.
That mindset runs through the entire album, with “I’m Out and I Wanna Go Home.” A track that taps into the feeling of always wanting to be somewhere else, whether that’s craving home while on tour or missing the excitement of travel once you’re back in routine.
Then there are tracks such as “Feel It,” which was written in response to the growing hostility aimed at LGBTQ+ and trans communities around the world, offering a message of support without losing the warmth and optimism that sits at the centre of the record.
Even the more vulnerable moments, especially tracks like “Good Enough,” feel natural rather than overly polished, giving the album a more honest edge than some of his earlier work.
Despite touching on heavier themes, Too Much Not Enough still carries the colorful production and playful songwriting that made Daði stand out in the first place.
The synths are bright, the hooks are infectious, and there’s an easiness to the album that makes it feel entirely genuine. Throughout the album’s 12 tracks, you’ll follow Daði through a rollercoaster of emotions, uncovering lyrics and themes that hit harder than they first appear.
