Iraqi-American dark-pop siren Ellisse has unveiled the official music video for her single “Liplock”.
Sensual and wanting, “Liplock” is the latest music video to be released from Ellisse’s EP Bedroom Confessional, which was released last month. The music video, much like the single itself, is emotionally charged, dark, and moody, and its flirty lyricism is laid bare amongst shots of Ellisse contorted into impossible poses in pink light-flooded rooms.
It’s provocative and gorgeous to look at, with the unmistakable visual beats of a horror movie; Ellissee sits and poses in an abandoned house with the wallpaper ripped off, and on top of a car parked in a dark forest as a floodlight points directly at her. It’s a bold move to lace your sensual song about temptation with Blair Witch-esque imagery, but Ellissee makes it work with ease.
The images all build to a crescendo as Ellisse pours gasoline all over the abandoned house before setting it alight, as if her feelings are absolutely burning her and need to escape somehow, before they run out.
“I wanted this video to feel fun, energetic, and like the perfect chaotic ending to this story. It represents how my mind felt when leaving everything I thought I knew behind and starting from scratch again; scary, but exciting and fresh,” says Ellisse.
