Washington, DC-based singer-songwriter Hallie Marie has released her new single “A Space of Clarity”.
Created much in the vein of Paramore’s “The Only Exception”, “A Space of Clarity” tells the story of a fleeting romance and everything that goes along with it, going through the pain and bittersweetness of a chance encounter. Rather than being a sad track, Hallie Marie shares a gratitude for having experienced this short love at all, instead of being sad that it’s over.
“It’s easy to be broken by the pain of loss,” says Hallie Marie. “But it’s also the natural consequence of anything beautiful; everything we have today we’ll eventually lose. There’s no negotiation. You’ll have to let go because you can’t hang onto it anyway. It’s important to me that love remains pure in my memories so they don’t become distorted by heartbreak or cynicism.”
“A Space of Clarity” starts off gently, with a gentle background echo and twinkling piano notes alongside Hallie Marie’s warm, rich vocals before the bass and percussion comes in. Hallie Marie sings “all this stuff is nothing but the worries of the pain/so while I’m feeling brave/if I may”, and gathers her bravery for dealing with the love and loss of something she had to make peace with, never holding onto, before it even really happened.
The track is Hallie Marie’s latest in collaboration with guitarist Buddy Speir, drummer Andy Hamburger, bassist Eric Scott, and sound engineer Ken Schubert, marking a move to an overall more polished and richly-instrumented sound for her music.
