LA-based post-punk artist Nick Moon has released his satirical surf-rock track, “Setting Sun.”
As moody as it is frenetic, Nick Moon eviscerates the growing class divide in the United States by way of an easy summer groove and clashing instruments, inspired in equal parts by Lou Reed, David Byrne, and Tom Waits.
According to Nick Moon, “Musically and lyrically, nothing is sacred, and everything is meant to be played with”. That’s definitely the moon on “Setting Sun”, with lyrics such as “you’re going out of style/so babe you better run/I’ll meet you at the setting sun” in Nick Moon’s theatrical sing-talk style.
“Setting Sun” could be – and should be – an instant classic, reminiscent of the witty wordplay of Queens of the Stone Age and equally as fuzzed-out.
It’s the first single off his upcoming debut album, Who is the Bone Man, which promises to be an intersection of post-punk, noise rock, and experimental dance music. It’s a big set of promises, but Nick Moon is definitely bold enough to make it work in his quest to make punk music you can dance to.
