Pop-rock giants Anamanaguchi have released their mammoth 71-track soundtrack album for the beat-em-up sidescroller game Scott Pilgrim EX.
Having released it digitally via Bandcamp, the band expect the physical release of the soundtrack to be released on August 7th via Polyvinyl Record Co. Covering a range of styles deftly in a way that only comes easy to an outfit like Anamanaguchi, the soundtrack is split into four parts. The first is the real-world-representation of Toronto, and the following three are named for the supernatural threats that feature in the game; Vegans, Demons, and Robots.
According to the band themselves: “We’ve learned a lot since recording the 2010 [Scott Pilgrim] OST in our basement. The hypest part of working with Casey [di Iorio, producer] was being able to change the recording methods on a dime, since we had to flex so many different styles on this one – thrash, surf, reggae, emo, boss music etc”.
The soundtrack signals yet another step forward in the band’s journey to marry their original, chiptune-heavy electronic sound with their current fuzzy rock identity, once again creating something wholly and unapologetically Aanamanaguchi in style and tone.
