Built on a bed of warm, 80s-inspired synths, Luke Million and Munan return with something truly special in their new single "Smoke & Mirrors" – the track leans into retro-disco textures without ever slipping into pastiche, instead reframing those influences through a modern indie-pop lens. Luke Million explains that
"Smoke & Mirrors began as a fun 80s synth-infused bop where I channelled influences from Justice, GiorgioMoroder and even Billy Joel. When it was time to find a vocalist, I was drawn to the psychedelic, indie-pop sound of Munan. Iwanted our two worlds to meld together, and when I received the first demo back from Munan, I knew we were on to somethingmagical right away. His dreamy vocals and epic guitar melodies encapsulated a feeling of mystery and a feel-good vibe that tookthe instrumental to a whole new level. It was such a pleasure working with Munan. His passion and musicianship made this a dreamcollaboration, and Smoke & Mirrors is the result of this instant connection we made.”
From the outset, Luke Million’s production does the heavy lifting—lush, analog tones pulse steadily beneath shimmering melodies, evoking neon-lit dancefloors and late-night drives. There’s a clear affection for classic disco and synthwave here, but it’s handled with restraint and polish, allowing the track to breathe rather than overwhelm.
Munan’s contribution is what elevates ‘Smoke & Mirrors’ beyond a stylish homage. His hazy, ethereal vocals drift across the instrumental with a sense of weightless cool, while his use of fuzzed-out guitars—doubling as synth-like leads—adds a subtly psychedelic edge.
