Seattle indie upstarts Sharkeologist are back with a punchy new single called “There Will Be Bread,” and it’s the kind of track that turns anxious thoughts into something you can actually dance to. Pulled from their upcoming EP, TAXIDERMY IS FOREVER (due in May), the song doubles down on the band’s signature mix of indie-rock hooks, punk energy, and a little Pacific Northwest grit.
From the start, “There Will Be Bread” moves fast. Crunchy guitars, a propulsive bass line, and pounding drums give the track a restless momentum that rarely lets up. Shimmering keys sneak into the mix, adding a slightly dreamy texture, while the vocals ride the energy with a catchy, shout-along delivery. It feels like the kind of song built for sweaty clubs and late-night overthinking sessions in equal measure.
Lyrically, the band tackles a pretty uncomfortable question: do people genuinely care about each other, or are they mostly motivated by money? In this case, the doubt is aimed at the singer’s therapist. It sounds heavy on paper, but Sharkeologist keeps the mood kinetic rather than gloomy. The tension between anxious lyrics and upbeat instrumentation is exactly what makes the track stick.
One of the most memorable moments arrives in the form of a saxophone burst from award-winning musician Johnny Butler. It’s an unexpected twist that cuts through the guitars and pushes the song into even more lively, celebratory territory.
For a band that only arrived on the Seattle scene in 2024, Sharkeologist already sounds confident in their identity. “There Will Be Bread” is loud, hooky, and unrestrained in the best way. If this single is any indication, TAXIDERMY IS FOREVER could be a seriously fun release.
