Vancouver outfit Dead Churches blends together working-class lyricism of Americana with bold rock sensibilities and intense hardcore punk elements to craft genre-bending listening experience that allures you across each note.
On their debut EP Fear and Faith, the band cover a spectrum of universal, human experiences wrapped in captivating and anthemic soundscapes across six diverse songs. From the soaring stylings of opener “Royal Blue,” and “Living Hell,” the project sets a resonant tone of catchy instrumentation led by relatable storytelling.
While tracks like “I’m Dead,” swerve into the slow, retrospective notes underpinned by hypnotic rhythms, others like closing track “Psalm 3:33,” leave behind uplifting vibes with melodic vocals leading us into linger sense of brightness at the end of the EP.
Inspired by relationships, failures and successes, the EP weaves through loss, love, regret to transform hopelessness into empowerment, framed by self-realization and self-improvement Speaking of the the album, the band say, “The intention of Fear and Faith is to captivate you with songs that evoke heartbreak and existential anger. The message is not for you to wallow in self pity but to encourage you to do the opposite.”
Reminding us to attack adversity with a vengeance, Dead Churches offers up an unapologetic and gritty musical experience on Fear and Faith, leaving us wanting more.
