Dallas underground rapper Trippychidi transforms paranoia, ambition, and emotional volatility into a gripping sonic experience on his latest album Arkham. A six-track collection rooted in darkly cinematic, haunting soundscape, the album swerves smoothly between chaos and delicacy as it invites us into the depths of the rising talent’s psyche.
From the glitched-out, foreboding notes of opener “Within,” which unfurls with an anthemic rap style to the more electro-tinged melodic tones of “Racks on Racks,” and hypnotic loops of closing track “Rich Manifestations,” the album is chaotic and intense yet floats with entrancing sonic ease that leaves us emotional, energised and everything in between.
Drawing inspiration from the idea of an asylum, the track represents isolation, obsession, and the relentless pressure of chasing greatness in the underground, the album blends his experimental, genre-bending rap musicality with profoundly authentic lyrical declarations.
Speaking of the album, he says, “I want people to feel like they stepped into my head for a minute. There’s chaos in it, there’s vision in it, there’s things I can’t really explain. If they walk away feeling something they can’t name confused, inspired, hypnotized that’s the point. This release is a glimpse into my world. What they take from it is on them.”
Having sharpened his craft at a young age, moving slowly and steadily through the internet’s rap scene with powerful artistry, Trippychidi’s raw energy and unpredictable style manages to be tender and volatile all at once as he continues to carve out a space for himself one of Dallas’s most enigmatic underground talents.
