Soulful, yearning, and muddled guitar riffs open British R&B singer-songwriter and rapper kwn’s new single, “hopeless romantic,” setting the tone for a song that is sincere, sultry, and unmistakably her.
Directed by Chris Chance and produced by Freenjoy, the accompanying music video follows kwn as she moves through a studio lot, passing through a series of surreal scenes: climbing a NYC yellow cab, encountering a cowboy atop a brown horse, and rocking back and forth with a three-piece mariachi band.
She jams along with the track, miming drums, before climbing into the bed of a beige pickup truck overflowing with wildflowers. The video captures kwn living in her own world, walking through it with proverbial rose-colored glasses, and inhabiting a daydream while moving through a working studio lot.
It’s a track that sticks in your memory—a slow-paced jam that, while sonically simple, features bursts of drum riffs that give it an organic, live-band feel.
