Canberra-hailing band EPHMRL captures the emotional aftermath of a world forced apart on “Into The Fracture,” a frenetic offering that leans away from the band’s aggressive signature to deliver a lighter, melodic and more emotionally open listening experience.
Unfurling a tale of longing as someone searches for more time in a life that feels overwhelming and fleeting all at once, the track taps into a universal wish for more time to celebrate, make memories and simply exist with your loved ones. Revealing a new dimension of their sonic identity without losing any of the intensity they’ve made their own, the hard-hitting but expansive production eases upbeat vibes and feelings of hope into a sense of aching vulnerability to make for a dynamic, layered arrangement.
Led by sharp guitars that carry the raw emotions of the vocal delivery, the expressive anthem is carried forward by melody and momentum as it invites us to settle into our thoughts and reflections.
Having taken shape as the Covid restrictions began to ease, the track channels years of separation, uncertainty, and absence to a cathartic feeling of reclaimation. Drawn from the moments and memories missed as well as the desire to be present again in life, the track encapsulates quiet desperation of time slipping away without letting the track stray into melancholy.
Speaking of the track, the band reflect, “We all missed so much time together. Births, birthdays, weddings being postponed—big moments that we all missed and wished we could get back. Because the story was filled with desperation,we decided we wanted it delivered in a way that was more upbeat but still showed moments of that desperation.”
The powerful track is one of six songs on their new EP As We Collide, a collection that leads us through a journey of intensity and introspection that marries the nostalgia of loss with the hope of moving forward. Forging a sound that is heavy, melodic, and unrelentingly emotional all at once, EPHMRL weaves through themes of isolation, identity, and rebirth rooted in their metalcore musicality to carve out a distinct space for themselves in Australia’s heavy scene.
