Manchester-based artist Helen Mac has unleashed her new album, Precipice, and it feels like a real milestone moment.
The record brings together 11 songs written over more than a decade, moving from bedroom demos captured during the pandemic to studio sessions. You can hear that journey embodied in the sound; intimate but fully formed.
The standout for many will be “Undergone,” a liberation anthem written during the breakdown of her marriage, and the lyrics pull no punches.
“For now, for now, I feel so lost / For now, for now, I count the cost of all I’ve undergone.”
There is vulnerability in those lines, but also steel. When she sings “And yes I’m back again,” it lands like a personal victory rather than a throwaway hook.
The track builds from raw honesty into something empowering without losing its emotional weight.
The title track, “Precipice,” is another highlight. Built largely from layered vocals created in her home studio, it explores the pressure of responsibility and the realities of living with bipolar disorder. The track captures that feeling of holding everything together on the surface while privately struggling.
What makes the album work is its clarity. There is no overcomplication, just sharp songwriting, emotional transparency, and a sense that Helen Mac has fully stepped into her voice.
It is an album about survival, accountability, and starting again, and it feels hard-won.
