Alexander Carson shares soothing and cinematic "Corporeal & Complete"

Norwich and London-based artist Alexander Carson unveils “Corporeal & Complete” a soothing folk-tinged track giving us a peek of their forthcoming three-part album project, Triptych.

Quietly confessional yet cinematic, the track weaves together atmospheric soundscape built on fingerpicked guitar, swelling strings, lush piano, double bass and analogue synth, underpinned by Carson’s fragile vocal delivery.

Rooted in poetic lyricism that meditates on a past left behind and the unsure future, the track is melancholic and comforting all at once as it floats around us delicately and disarmingly.

Chasing a wistful sense of nostalgia for a time and place we’ve never known or experienced, the track is part of the “Anemoia” section of the album which will centre on the past and lean into intimacy and acoustic textures.

On the single, Carson explains: “This song harkens back to my folk roots and I wrote a lot of the lyrics sitting on the bank of the Tagus in Lisbon, imagining myself as some kind of modern day Byron but with less syphilis. This ditty, and a lot of the album, is about my past and growing up in a cult and abruptly leaving at the age of 20. In this instance I’m nostalgic for a time period that truthfully wasn’t very happy for me. This album will deal with the existential ponderings that are formed when you approach the middle point of your new, post cult, existence, constantly aware of the schism that led you to where you are now.”

With “Corporeal & Complete” being an enchanting introduction to the the first chapter of Triptych No.1: Anemoia, a nine-track collection that kicks off an in-depth exploration of trauma, estrangement and mortality, Carson is set to unfold their experience of leaving a cult in their teens within an expansive  sonic world that will move through acoustic stylings into orchestral terrains and electronic tones.

Extensively diverse yet intricately cohesive in their craft, Carson prepares us for a poignant but playful laden with as much devotion and devastation as humour and theatricality.
