Mr Eazi and King Promise have joined forces for a new track called “That Way”. Mr Eazi is a Nigerian musical innovator, entrepreneur, and philanthropist behind global afropop hits, as well as the founder of emPawa Africa and a pioneer of Banku music. King Promise, hailing from Ghana, grew up immersed in diverse sounds from reggae to highlife, a range that continues to shape his evolving style today, most recently showcased on his 2024 album True to Self. The longtime friends and collaborators will release their joint LP See What We’ve Done on March 11 via emPawa Africa, and they’re kicking things off with “That Way”- a smooth, nostalgia-laced single that flips a millennial pop classic into something distinctly their own. Inspired by the golden era of boy bands like the Backstreet Boys, their latest offering is both familiar and refreshingly current.
Produced by GuiltyBeatz and JAE5, “That Way” engagingly reworks the instantly recognizable melody and hook from the Backstreet Boys’ “I Want It That Way”, reshaping the 1999 pop ballad into a vivid, heartfelt Afrobeats slow-burn. The warmth of the original is still present, but this version leans further into rhythm- percussive, fluid, and energizing. Instead of borrowing nostalgia, the duo use it as a launchpad, turning a teenage anthem into a mature, groove-heavy love song with an atmospheric sound and passionate vocals.
With its blend of playful nostalgia, polished production, and natural chemistry, “That Way” presents a refreshing, kinetic new track from Mr Eazi and King Promise.
