Riding on traditional Boom Bap beats and silver tongued flows, the latest from Chilean rapper Ana Tijoux.
Despite kick-starting her career in the late 90's in her involvement in the late Boom-Bap movement and with her work with Makiza, Ana Tijoux has remained refreshingly consistent with her rap capabilities and overall presentation in style. Where other rappers who are still in the game have faltered in giving in to current trends or remaining frustratingly in the same lane they started in, Tijoux' style has only grown with the times, incorporating fluctuating themes in the production and tackling current events.
Tijoux' previous album, Vida echoed that sentiment of staying true to your nature, but none channels that strong late 90's Rap persona as her latest single "Desapego." The song carries the same nonchalant, confident synth groove and infectious drum loop you'd find in the VIBE archives, with Tijoux spitting as charismatically as ever. A perfect teaser for her upcoming EP 97, coming later this spring on March. 12th.
