Multi-platinum, Southern California-based band Young The Giant released their new single, “Different Kind Of Love.”
Produced by Brendan O’Brien (Bob Dylan, Pearl Jam, AC/DC), the single is a teaser for the band’s upcoming sixth album Victory Garden, which will be their first full-length release since 2022’s American Bollywood.
A self-styled “lucid invitation to find radical empathy” in a “world inundated by either doomsday nuclear clocks or escapist AI slop”, “Different Kind Of Love” is a promise of more positivity to come – and it’s the perfect time for it.
The track is a soaring yet bittersweet number, overwhelmingly positive in tone even as the lyrics show understanding of a difficult situation, while at the same begging the listener to keep going. It’s hard not to sing along with the almost anthemic words “livin’ in a house that’s not your home/livin’ on a prayer you used to know/give in to the weight but don’t let go/don’t let go.”
The lyrics watch the journey of someone trapped in difficult feelings slowly come to terms with getting themselves out of it after hitting rock bottom, and it’s extremely difficult not to let the fight of it fill you up as you listen. Optimism is badly needed at this particular point in time, and Young The Giant have successfully tapped into that.
It couldn’t come at a better time for the band themselves, who recently celebrated their 10 year anniversary with two sold-out shows at the Troubador – with further tour dates yet to come.
