The Icarus Kid is the electronic musical project by Los Angeles based acclaimed producer, songwriter and musician Dan Crowdus. His latest single is called "Every Night" and the track is the second riveting release of the year from this creative.
With "Every Night", The Icarus Kid crafts a cheeky, high-energy house banger that perfectly captures both his playful instincts and sharp production chops. The single is a narration on the ridiculousness of the to be seen club culture, with the narrator just in the club to dance and have a damn good time. The narrator leans into that tongue-in-cheek perspective of someone who’s over the posturing and just wants to dance as she sings, "A girl is crying about her boyfriend / Wiping away her tears / He don't understand the drama queen of the year / Don't mean to be rude / But we don't do that here / want to feel the beat / Every night of the week."
Musically, "Every Night" captivates with a driving Latin groove that anchors the track. Sultry vocals glide over the beat while bright synths intoxicate. The track is sexy but self-aware, without taking itself too seriously. The production flourishes are where The Icarus Kid's personality really shines. Inspired after watching MacGruber for the first time, he injected the track with absurdist touches, whip cracks, cougar roars, and exaggerated sonic moments that nod to the film’s over-the-top sound design. In lesser hands, those elements might feel gimmicky; here, they land as clever, crowd-pleasing punctuation marks that elevate the groove rather than distract from it.
With “Every Night,” The Icarus Kid proves that reinvention doesn’t mean abandoning your roots. The 8-bit kid at heart is still there, just now armed with a Latin house rhythm, a Beatport chart history, and a mischievous grin.
