Californian singer/songwriter and author Matt Palka has released his new single, “Oh Angela”.
Announced alongside both his upcoming album Moment In The Sun and his book of the same name, “Oh Angela” was inspired by the “magic of youth”, and tells the story of two friends who choose to rewrite the “rules” of the Garden of Eden.
“Oh Angela” is about the importance of friendship and platonic love, and is Matt Palka’s tribute to having the courage people have when taking care of each other.
“There is a special magic in their youthful affection for each other that is about as pure as can be. [And] that is an affection that is worth savouring before the world forces them to grow up and change,” he says.
“Oh Angela” features gentle acoustic guitar and almost-yodeling vocals from Matt Palka, which combine to create a gentle, hopeful atmosphere as he sings “don’t ever let them bring you down” and “let them say we’ve got stars in our eyes”. The mood and the sentiment of the track are in agreement – it’s important to take care of yourself, those you love, and keep going even when it’s hard, even when some people might not want you to.
The single will be featured on Matt Palka’s upcoming album, due to be released on June 19th this year, just six days before his book is also released. Both were inspired by Matt Palka’s solo cross-country cycling adventure that he took in his 20s, and tell the story of a college graduate’s journey to find his soul mate.
