Toronto-based rockers Good Kid have released their new single “Eastside.”
A tense, driving track all about the pressures of unresolved tensions with other people, “Eastside” captures the discomfort of running into someone you used to be close with, but no longer know particularly well.
The track is unabashedly about confrontation, without making it seem like the correct or “righteous” thing to do.
The lyrics are deeply acerbic, as the fuzzy vocals spit out “you washed up from higher ground/I saw but I couldn’t believe it/your smug face from the side of my eye”. This song is angry, and definitely spoiling for a fight – even if the actual fight won’t necessarily materialise, this track is still dreaming about it.
“Eastside” has been released alongside the announcement that the band’s debut album, Can We Hang Out Sometime? will be released on April 3rd, and the album has already hit over 50,000 pre-saves on Spotify – which isn’t surprising considering the dedicated nature of the fandom Good Kid have developed over the past few years, just by playing things by ear.
The accompanying music video is also typical Good Kid fare, in the best way – quick and frenetic, much like the song itself, the video sees one of their fans animated into the Good Kid universe.
Good Kid also announced the kick-off of a North American tour beginning April 10th, before heading across to the UK and EU; many shows are already sold out.
