If you're in need of a soulful, colourful and unique pick-me up for your Friday.. we've got you covered
Nothing scratches the itch like a bit of groove-rich neo-soul-disco.. Crackazat provided exactly that with his new single, “Pick Me Up,”. Known for his signature blend of jazz and house music, this release marks a confident change in direction, repositioning the artist as more than a jazz-house producer, a more rounded and accomplished jazz-funk musician.
“Pick Me Up” is described as a “potent concoction of jazz, funk, disco and soul,” signaling a departure from the purely dancefloor-focused grooves that have become a staple of his work, which has previously earned praise for its “warm jazzy chords, swung grooves and quirky melodies.” The shift emphasizes live, instrumental musicianship—a skillset credited to his formal training in jazz composition and performance.
This is a living and breathing production, featuring a rich, full sound. Crackazat himself handles bass, keys, and vocals, but crucially, he brings in live talent, including LA drummer Tamuz Dolev and Swedish horn players Andreas Gidland and Karl Olandersson. This infusion of live instrumentation firmly roots the track in soul, disco, and jazz-funk, giving it a timeless quality that’s perfectly tuned for both today’s dance floors and home listening.
Inspired, surprisingly, The Cardigans’ “Love Fool,” provided the key inspiration for this song.. Crackazat explains that “I was about 9 at the time and and it goes without saying that I’ve got very used to this kind of funky live music being accessible to everyone. I miss that in much of today’s more disposable dance music and I want to bring it back.”
